House of horrors cops another dose
Has been told investigators from the Santiago taskforce have examined the activities of some members of the Tiba family in recent years.A home occupied by the family, in Guildford Ave, Coolaroo, was sprayed with bullets from a car yesterday morning.
Other attackers tried to plough a truck into a wall of the house at the same time, hours after a house 3.5km away in Sunset Blvd, Jacana, was shot at. Four people were inside when the shooter opened fire at 2am.
The Coolaroo house was firebombed on Tuesday morning and was also blasted by gunfire in February.
The Santiago taskforce was set up to investigate shootings and gang activity in Melbourne's north and west.
Family patriarch Abdul Tiba said he was not scared by the latest attack, but feared for his family and neighbours. One of his sons, Osman, was shot at Ascot Vale in 2008.
Osman was charged after a loaded pistol was found in a car in which he was travelling at Dallas last year.
Abdul Tiba said he didn't know why the home was being attacked or who was responsible.
He said if he, or any members of his family knew, they would tell police.
"This man is a coward, a mad dog," Mr Tiba said.
"I'm worried for my family and neighbours. I feel really sorry for my neighbours. What had happened in my home, I don't like that."
Mr Tiba said the attackers should show their faces. "This man can't kill me. My time is not finished," he said.
Detective Superintendent Kevin Sheridan said it was unclear why the house was a target.
But he could not rule out a link to a shoot-out between parties in two cars at Glenroy on Sunday. Police patrols were being stepped up in the area and the victims had been offered assistance to find temporary accommodation.
Det Supt Sheridan said it was lucky no one was hurt.
