Fair Time

"I'm just an old gearhead," said Rohrig, 44, referring to his penchant for demolition derbies. He's been competing in them for 26 years.
"We take derbying pretty serious," said Justin Montgomery.
In the days leading up to the Saline County Tri-Rivers Fair & Rodeo -- which begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday -- Montgomery usually is hard at work during nights and weekends, preparing for the Friday night derby.
But this year, he's also gearing for an added attraction -- Car Soccer -- a "just for fun" respite from the rigors of demolition driving.
"It's something different," said Rohrig, who works in maintenance at Cameron Compression Systems.
A heating, ventilation and air conditioning technician for City Plumbing, Montgomery, 28, is among the competitors for the new attraction this year -- pushing a 12-pound, 6-foot-tall soccer ball into a goal with stripped-down compact cars.
The winning three-car team in the Saturday night tournament in the rodeo arena wins $1,000. The total purse is $2,000.
"It's kind of like hockey, pretty fun," Montgomery said.
His father, Lee Montgomery, of Bennington, and Chuck Northup, of rural Salina, have joined Rohrig in a Car Soccer team. Justin was planning to form his own soccer threesome.
The object of a demo derby is to crash into opponents and disable their vehicles. Crashes are part of Car Soccer as well, promoter Regina McDermith said, but you've got to be slightly more polite. You can't "flat out pile somebody" in the tournament, she said.
"If someone's being overaggressive, they put you in the penalty box," Montgomery said. "I'm sure there will be plenty of contact."
Car Soccer is among the new events at the fair this year, said Eric Blomquist, a fair board member.
"We thought it sounded fun and interesting," he said.

@BitchFunky317 I get that stay in school for good I live in a non-speaking english country that make things little harder, even though I’m already a chemestry technician, but anyways I think they are trying to pull something that goes more for the graphics than the games, not everybody have a 3d television and even them those games produced nowadays spend to much to be developed and sometimes it doesn’t even focus on the main story but in some sidequest or even achivements or some are too simple
@Guiii41 Man, i’m sorry, but it was quite hard to understand what the hell you were trying to say. But I think the jist is ‘good games are good games no matter what the graphics.’ Yeah, I agree with you. Every system you mentioned I owned when it was new, and still have today. But the fact of the matter is this, you either stay up with technology, or you get left behind. Stay in school.

@lylatfox4 Personnaly, I still love playing GTA 4 and it still impresses me today in therms of overall desing, its still groundbreaking in my oppinion. Stuff like the unscripted car damages or the incredible sense of immersion the cities offer are things I have yet to see in any other game(Half Life 2 comes pretty close and I love that game too BTW).
