Pastor of First Baptist in Jackson steps down
Letter of resignation Dear Church Family,
I read the following letter today at the Downtown Campus at the end of both morning worship services:
After much prayer and consideration, I am submitting my resignation as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Jackson.
There are several things I want you to know: (1) I have not been asked by anyone to resign. (2) There are certainly no issues of immorality. In fact, my relationships with my wife and children are better and stronger than they've ever been. (3) There are certainly no issues of unethical conduct.
In my two previous pastorates, I experienced a very clear release from God when it was time to leave. What about here at First Baptist Jackson?
If you could read my journal, you would see that for many months now I have been wondering if it was time; if God was giving me a release from the pastorate of First Baptist.
My time away over the last few weeks has confirmed that it is in fact time to move on. It is time for me to transition to a different phase of life and ministry.
I want you to know that these past 7 1/2 years have been an incredible experience.
Most pastors never have the opportunity to experience what I have experienced over these years. In fact, I wouldn't trade it for anything!
I plan to share a little more about this when I preach my final sermon here on August 14. I hope you will be here on that day as we worship our God and have a wonderful time in His name.
Finally, I am not going to another church at this time, and we have no plans to move.
However, we are looking forward with great anticipation to whatever God has in store for this next phase of life and ministry.
As we have attempted to do for many years now, we will seek to live our lives for the glory of God and the benefit of others.
May God bless each and every one of you and may God pour out His blessings on First Baptist Church Jackson.

Members of the church are still searching for an interim pastor after the previous minister, who initially contacted police, resigned in the wake of the charges.
John Dennehey was suspended as senior planner for the state’s Hudson River Valley Greenway, a riverfront environmental conservancy, on June 24 — the day the Times Union printed an article on his arrest.
Dennehey, 36, of 77 Grove Ave., turned himself in to Albany police on June 18 on charges he downloaded pornography and masturbated in front of two 13-year-old boys he was mentoring for their confirmation. The charges cited several occasions between June and November 2008 in Dennehey’s apartment and the church.
Mark Castiglione, the conservancy’s acting director, said Dennehey is suspended indefinitely “because of the severity of the charges.” Castiglione would not comment on the allegations.
Dennehey, who is paid $56,000 a year, has worked for the conservancy since 2003.
He pleaded not guilty at his June arraignment to two counts each of disseminating indecent material to minors, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
