Searching For An HDTV Price Match- Why Won't Sears and Best Buy Match Amazon?

While electronics retailing has a long history of failed national and regional chains (think Circuit City, Tweeter, Goodguys, Wiz and Federated to name a few) the “new” reality called Amazon seems to be one that Sears and Best Buy executives can’t bring themselves to recognize.

Store policy is to not price match Amazon in any way, potentially losing the sale altogether. will not issue refunds for such items. (Amazon typo reprinted as-is)

Amazon.com is happy to accept returns for large TVs that are shipped via our specialty shippers. These items do require a special type of return and cannot be returned with a pre-paid return mailing label like standard shipments. If you need to return a TV purchased from Amazon.com or a seller but fulfilled by Amazon, which was shipped via a specialty shipper, visit our Online Returns Center and request the return. We’ll follow up with instructions for returning the TV.

For returns of all other TV’s purchased from a seller, please contact the seller directly by going to “Your Orders” in Your Account. Then click the “Contact Seller” button on the order you’re interested in returning. To view the seller’s return policy, click the “Return items” button on the order below “Contact Seller”.

If you are returning an item because it is damaged or defective, or the wrong item was shipped:

Sears: 8% cash back + free shipping to store

Ebates is offering 8% cash back at Sears today only, June 21st, up from their standard 2%.

I don’t have any fantastic deals to share with you to go along with this cash back, but I mentioned it for a very important reason.  One of my favorite ways to save a little money on purchases we would be making anyway is to go through a cash back site and use the free shipping to store option.

If you have been planning on purchasing an appliance or other large item from Sears, today would be the day to do it to maximize your savings.

You will now be redirected to the Sears website.  Find the item you were going to purchase, add to your cart and choose the “Store Pickup” option if available.  Within 30 days (but usually much quicker), 8% of your total purchase price will be credited back to your Ebates account.

You can also try promo code SEARS2011 to save an additional $5 off a purchase of $50 or more.  There are several exclusions, but can’t hurt to try.
