Award-winning musicians on stage Thursday at Celtic Circle
NEW GLASGOW – A cast of award-winning east coast musicians will share the stage this Thursday at the Celtic Circle.
The Celtic Umbrella is comprised of Celtic and traditional musicians Anna Ludlow, Gillian Boucher, Colette Cheverie and Seph Peters.
Ludlow is a fiddler from Antigonish and has shared the stage with the Beach Boys, Blue Rodeo, Don Ross and Ron Hynes. She was the principal fiddler in the show DRUM! and released her first album, Reel to Reel, in 2009.
After making Scotland her home for several years, Boucher has returned to her native Nova Scotia. Upon her return from Edinburgh, Boucher recorded her album Elemental in 2008. She is the recipient of the Traditional/Roots Recording of the Year at the 2009 Nova Scotia Music Week.
Cheverie is a singer and accordionist hailing from Prince Edward Island. Her album Hours Before Dawn has earned nominations for Traditional Album of the Year at the 2009 Canadian Folk Music Awards and 2010 Music P.E.I. Awards and East Coast Music Awards.
Peters is a guitar and banjo accompanist. He has toured with Mary Jane Lamond, Pauline Scanlon, Ron Hynes, Paddy Keenan and Tony DeMarco.

So many "Celtic" releases are in fact substandard New Age treacle with anonymous vocals and synth instruments, but here we have 32 outstanding tracks that capture the lyric, melancholy beauty of the Irish nature, recorded by masters of the trade (the Chieftains have been around for more than three decades!). Yes, there are New Age pieces, too, tracks from Lord of the Rings and Titanic, but there is a much more balanced look at modern Celtic on Celtic Circle 2 than on the first (more Celtic, less New Age).
