NBA first-round picks

Round One

1. Cleveland • Kyrie Irving, Duke, Fr., 6-4, 190, PG

Skinny: Irving remained the safest top choice despite an injury limiting him to 11 games at Duke.

2. Minnesota • Derrick Williams, Arizona, So., 6-8, 248, SF/PF

Skinny: Williams is an elite-level talent but a "tweener" between playing small and power forward.

3. Utah • Enes Kanter, Kentucky, Int'l, 6-11, 260, C

Skinny: Ruled ineligible at Kentucky, the skilled center hasn't played a significant game since high school.

4. Cleveland • Tristan Thompson, Texas, Fr., 6-9, 225, PF

Skinny: Thompson is a high-energy type player with a "blue collar" work ethic and 7-2 wingspan.

5. Toronto • Jonas Valanciunas, Lithuania, Intl., 6-11, 240, C

Skinny: Toronto seems willing to wait on Valanciunas who will likely play overseas this season.

6. Washington • Jan Vesely, Czech Republic, Intl., 6-11, 230, SF/PF:

Skinny: As a tall, athletic forward, Vesely is a perfect complement for speedy point guard John Wall.

7. Sacramentoa • Bismack Biyombo, Congo, Intl., 6-9, 245, C

Skinny: An excellent defender in the style of Ben Wallace, Biyombo's offensive game is very raw.

8. Detroit • Brandon Knight, Kentucky, Fr., 6-3, 175, PG:

Skinny: Maybe the most untapped potential of any college player, Knight could be a franchise guard.

9. Charlotte • Kemba Walker, Connecticut, Jr., 6-1, 185, PG

Skinny: A proven winner for NCAA champion Connecticut, Walker is very explosive. Size is a concern.

10. Milwaukeea • Jimmer Fredette, Brigham Young, Sr., 6-2, 195, PG

Skinny: "The Jimmer" can shoot anywhere past half court, but does he have point-guard skills?

11. Golden State • Klay Thompson, Washington State, Jr., 6-7, 205, SG/SF

Skinny: Thompson's a prolific shooter, and Knicks GM Donnie Walsh said, at best, he's got Reggie Miller potential.

12. Utah • Alec Burks, Colorado, So., 6-6, 195, SG

Skinny: An excellent ballhander, Burks gets to the rim very well. His outside shooting needs improvement.

13. Phoenix • Markieff Morris, Kansas, Jr., 6-9, 240, PF

Skinny: Markieff is the first Morris to get drafted, and the twins will be the 7th ever set in the NBA.

14. Houston • Marcus Morris, Kansas, Jr., 6-8, 230, SF/PF

Skinny: ESPN noted that seven minutes separated the twins at birth, but just five separated their picks Thursday.

Darwin F. Johnson Explains Georgia Workers Compensation Benefits ...

Medical benefits including rehabilitation and other treatments are considered reasonable and necessary are covered under Georgia workman's compensation laws. This can include hospital stays, prescribed medication, doctor's visits, medical services and laboratory tests. In some cases the non-emergency care services may require approval from a panel of approved physicians. Georgia workers' comp laws also allow the employee to choose their physician, but the choice must be from a list determined by the employer. Temporary total disability benefits are paid to people who have been injured on the job and are unable to return to work due to their work injuries. Employees receiving TTD will receive 2/3 of their average weekly wage up to a predetermined maximum. TTD benefits are paid for a maximum of 400 weeks from the date of the work accident. Under some conditions, such as a catastrophic accident, TTD benefits may be extended. There is a 7 day waiting period prior to receiving TTD benefits. Workers who are injured for 21 or more consecutive days may receive payment from the first day of the work injury. Temporary partial disability benefits are paid to injured people who are able to return to work but who, due to their work injury, are unable to make a similar wage. TPD benefits are paid at 2/3 the difference between the injured person's average weekly wage prior to and after the work injury. TPD benefits can be paid for 350 weeks or up to a maximum established under Georgia workers' compensation law. Permanent partial disability benefits are paid weekly to injured workers who have been permanently disabled and may be unable to work their previous job, but may be able to do alternate work. Prior to determining the compensation amount, a medical examination is conducted by an independent medical examiner. The disability examiner rates the level of impairment. Disability payments are calculated by using the American Medical Associations ratings guidelines. PPD payments are made by multiplying 2/3 of the injured person's average weekly salary by the PPD percentage and a specified number of weeks. The number of weeks is determined according to a pre-determined schedule. The calculation for PPD benefits is not made until the treating physician has determined the worker has reached their maxim medical improvement. Death benefits are paid to the surviving spouse or dependents of Georgia workers who have died from a work injury or illness.
