In photo contest, iPad's the prize

Worcester County Tourism wants to be regaled by summer photos showing the spots that you consider most picturesque here in Maryland's only seaside county. Submit your best shots, and to show their gratitude, tourism officials will enter you for a chance to win a free Apple iPad 2.

Here's how it works. Contestants are invited to snap scenic, high resolution photos of their favorite places in Worcester County locations that capture your eyes. Then, email your photo or photos to Dani@oceancity.com and include "Beach and Beyond Photo Contest" in the subject line.

Lastly, be sure to post your photo to Beach and Beyond's Facebook page, with a brief explanation about the snap, and then ask all of your friends to like your photograph. But, remember, they will have to like Beach and Beyond before they can like your photograph.

The participant whose photo receives the most likes on the Beach and Beyond Facebook page will win the iPad.

The winner will be notified by email shortly after the contest closes, then posted on Beach and Beyond's Facebook page. At midnight on Oct. 15, the winner will be decided by whichever picture has the most likes on Beach and Beyond's Facebook page.

All the entries become the property of Worcester County Department of Tourism and can be used for promotional purposes. All entries to be considered must be determined high resolution, sent via email to Dani@oceancity.com , to be considered for the contest. Any photographs that do not meet the high resolution requirement will be disqualified.

"The contest is attracting viewers to the tourism Facebook site, with a 205 percent increase in monthly active users just since last month," said tourism director Lisa Challenger. "It's a really fun way to receive some amazing images and to boost traffic on our Facebook page and website."

To date, the contest has attracted some fun photos, such as a stunning sunset cruise photo submitted by Facebook user Bobby D that's already garnered 22 likes. And, we anticipate seeing plenty more over the summer months.

With the start of the contest, the Beach and Beyond Facebook page has already seen an increase in new users.

Similarly, with 12,330 visitors from May 20 through June 18, post views rocketed up 129 percent over that of the prior month.

"I'm thrilled by the attention the contest is attracting," said Challenger. "The contest is a fun and effective way to boost tourism."

All entries in the Beach and Beyond Photo Contest must be received no later than midnight Oct. 15. Worcester County employees and their families are not eligible to participate in the contest.
