OPETH Frontman On Swedish National Radio - June 21, 2011
OPETH guitarist/vocalist Mikael à kerfeldt has recorded ten hour-long shows for the Swedish national radio ( Sveriges Radio ). The first program was broadcasted on Sunday, June 19 and will be followed by another episode each Sunday at 11 p.m. for the coming 10 weeks. The show is based on Mikael 's love for obscure vinyl records, and he is playing actual vinyl on the show, with crackle and all.The already aired shows are also available as streamed audio at this location . (Note: The show is recorded in Swedish.)
OPETH 's new album, "Heritage" , will be released on September 20 via Roadrunner Records . The CD was produced by OPETH vocalist/guitarist Mikael à kerfeldt and was recorded earlier this year at Atlantis studios (formerly Metronome studios) in Stockholm. Mixing duties were handled by Steven Wilson ( PORCUPINE TREE ) and à kerfeldt . Longtime collaborator Travis Smith also worked with à kerfeldt to create, design and execute the album's artwork, which can be seen below.
"Heritage" will be released in several configurations that will certainly incite the interest of OPETH 's legion of fans, known for their passion for collecting and collectibles. The album will be released as a standard version; as a special edition loaded with extras; as a box set exclusive to the Roadrunner and the band's own official Omerch webstore; and as a double LP. There is something for every OPETH fan, thanks to this variety of options.
OPETH made its live debut with keyboardist Joakim Svalberg ( YNGWIE MALMSTEEN , GLENN HUGHES ) at the 10th annual Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival on June 10, 2011 on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, 60 miles south of Nashville.
Fan-filmed video footage of OPETH 's June 17, 2011 performance at this year's edition of Copenhell â the first big, outdoor metal festival in Denmark â can be viewed below.

There are over 50 universities in Texas with an open air radio station and UTSA is not among them. UTSA is pursuing a “Tier One” status and is well on it’s way towards reaching this goal. However, in pursuit of this status the university has not yet established a step which would certainly add prestige to the music program. A student run radio station is a vital experience for students of the music school and a perfect opportunity for students of other studies as well. Music Professor James Syler at UTSA believes that “college radio stations are one of the last forms of conveying creative music” to an audience fully immersed in a world of popular music and diminished creativity. I personally would volunteer as many hours as it takes to fully accomplish this feat, as I am sure many others would as well.
With a push start of financial backing, legal permission, and a minimal expectation for location, the university could leave the rest to the students. One may consider this a lot to ask for, but in reality is a necessary investment well worth it. Unfortunately, in the UTSA Handbook of Operating Procedures it states that “student publications at UTSA shall be independent student enterprises. The University shall not provide any student publication with financial support, editorial assistance, printing or other facilities.” Although this creates another preceding conflict in itself, I consider this to be more than an exception to this statement. A clear wave channel should not be thought of as just a student organization, but rather a university club. Students could compete for their own radio show by drawing the biggest audiences creating an unparalleled experience for Communications students or even those in Marketing and Sales. Students could have access to a much more widespread audience throughout San Antonio creating a presence with an endless demographic. This presence could dramatically help influence future successful leaders to choose our school and help in our proactive goal of being the best we can be.
I hope this inquiry makes it’s way towards others who also passionately feel this would benefit The University of Texas at San Antonio tremendously. I can argue my point and say what needs to be done, but I am incapable making the next practical steps on my own. Please keep this topic open to the ears of the university staff in hopes of continuing down the path of a prestigious university.
