MIS Hopes Ticket Deals Fill Stands
Jim Miller has been coming to see NASCAR races at MIS for the last 15 years. He even has an old school bus he converted into a NASCAR machine, painted accordingly and complete with a roof-top porch. All that and somehow his son James never caught the nascar bug. They've been camping out since Wednesday morning, waiting to move their bus into the infield.
"I've never even seen a race, not even on TV," said James Miller. "He kinda guilted me into it because of the father's day thing."
That's the day of the big race -- a lot to look forward to for these folks.
"To see everyone in the grand stands, and watch cars come right past the start-finish line, hear the engines roar and the sound of the crowd, it's really exhilarating," said Dennis Bickmeier, VP of Sales and Marketing for MIS.
To make sure that crowd's as big as years past, MIS is offering more ticket deals than usual. One incentive -- half off your Friday and Saturday ticket and 10 bucks off Sunday if you have a fishing or hunting license.
"We've got a big place, 106,000 seats here to fill, we've got great passionate race fans and again some of them have had to make some hard [financial] choices," Bickmeier said. "Maybe it's people who come in June and August, now they only come to one."
Campers don't get to move in to the infield until Thursday afternoon but some have been here as early as last Friday, coming from as far as the West Coast, even other countries.
"They don't really have to get here that early it's just something that's become tradition," Bickmeier said.
"Every year we run into people we met the year before, meet new people," said fan Tammy Flowers.
"Listen to music, drink some alcohol, we don't have to drive anywhere," said Jim Miller.
